Young Women Take the Lead in Spreading Awareness on Gender Equality in Sierra Leone

Campaign for Good Governance (CGG), in partnership with the Young Women in Democracy Forum (YWDF) and with support from the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), has successfully organized regional workshops across Sierra Leone to raise awareness on the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act and Policy.

These workshops brought together over 170 young women, including political party members, community leaders, and youth activists, to learn about their rights and the legal tools available to support women’s participation in governance and leadership.

The sessions were interactive and engaging. Participants took part in group discussions, role plays, presentations, and shared personal stories of how gender inequality affects their lives. They also completed pre- and post-tests to measure what they learned about the GEWE Act and Policy.

The workshops didn’t only focus on learning, the young women also made commitments to go back to their communities and share what they’ve learned. They pledged to speak up, hold leaders accountable, and push for the full implementation of the GEWE Act.

Thanks to these efforts, more young women now understand their rights and are ready to take action. The GEWE Act is no longer just a law, it is becoming a tool for change in the hands of young women across Sierra Leone.
